There’s something extra special about a wedding where every detail has been thoughtfully planned, and Clara and James’ day at The Estate at New Albany was exactly that.
As a Columbus, Ohio wedding photographer, I’ve seen a lot of beautifully organized days, but Clara (a wedding planner herself!) brought a level of intention and care that made their entire celebration feel seamless, meaningful, and incredibly personal from beginning to end.
The day took place at The Estate at New Albany, a gorgeous venue that has everything! From two getting ready suites, a foyer perfect for cocktail hour, an outdoor ceremony space with a backup indoor space, and a reception space – it’s the perfect venue for a relaxed and organized wedding experience.
The morning began with Clara already settled in at the venue, while James arrived with his groomsmen, wearing custom bowling jerseys that immediately set a fun, personal tone for the day. It was such a meaningful detail, especially since their connection goes back to bowling together! We had a little “game day” moment as they entered.
Shortly after, Clara and James exchanged heartfelt gifts. It was a quiet, intentional moment in the midst of the excitement, and you could feel just how much thought they had put into choosing something meaningful for each other.
When I went to style Clara’s details, I was informed that something unexpected happened. Her perfume spilled inside her detail box and stained her vow book.
But honestly? It turned into something so beautiful.
The colors soaked into the paper in a way that perfectly matched her wedding palette, creating a one-of-a-kind detail that couldn’t have been planned better if we tried! A true reminder that sometimes the unplanned moments end up being the most special.

Clara’s getting ready moments were filled with so much goofiness and love, surrounded by the people closest to her as they helped her into her dress and veil.
One of the most touching parts of the day was her first look with her grandpa. There wasn’t a dry eye in sight (mine included). She gifted him a tie with a photo on it, which made the moment even more meaningful.
These are the kinds of moments that make a wedding day unforgettable.
Their ceremony was incredibly heartfelt. Clara and James chose to read personal vows to each other, and the emotion in the room was undeniable.
There were tears everywhere – guests, family, and the wedding party. The way they spoke to each other and the way they are together made it so clear just how deep their connection is.
After family and wedding party portraits, we captured some beautiful couple portraits before heading into the reception where things took a fun turn.
Clara and James changed into new outfits and made their entrance with a t-shirt toss, instantly bringing the energy up and getting all their guests involved. It was such a fun and unique way to kick off the celebration!
One thing that truly stood out about this wedding was how much thought Clara and James put into their guests’ experience.
They created a dedicated “fun room” filled with:
It gave guests so many ways to engage and enjoy the night beyond the dance floor—which was such a fun and memorable touch.
Instead of a traditional table visit, Clara and James did a photo train during dinner, inviting guests up by table to take photos with them. It kept things organized while still allowing them to connect with everyone.
They also added playful award moments, like recognizing the guest who traveled the farthest!
One of the most emotional moments of the night was Clara’s bouquet dedication to her aunt. She gifted her a bouquet of sweet peas because her aunt has always called her “Sweet Pea.” It was incredibly touching and such a beautiful way to honor their relationship.
We snuck away for golden hour portraits, and it was absolutely worth it.
These moments felt calm, joyful, and intimate – just the two of them laughing, snuggling, soaking it all in, and being fully present with each other. Some of my favorite images from the entire day came from this time.
Between their special dances, speeches, seeing their live wedding painting completed, and an energetic dance floor, Clara and James’ reception was full of energy, love, and so much joy.
Every part of their day reflected who they are: thoughtful, fun, and deeply connected – not just to each other, but to everyone around them.
This day came together so beautifully thanks to an incredible team:
