Colorful Garden Party Wedding at the Dempsey Event Center

Wedding couple portrait at the Dempsey Event Center in Delaware, Ohio.

Kelsie and Ben’s colorful garden party wildflower wedding day at the Dempsey Event Center was the perfect combination of joyful, intentional, and wildly fun. Their entire celebration embraced a colorful garden party aesthetic with faded blue, green, soft purple, and whimsical wildflower-inspired details woven throughout every part of the day. Even with the chilly spring temperatures in early May, the atmosphere felt incredibly warm thanks to the love and excitement surrounding them!

From emotional private vows to one of the most entertaining parent dances I’ve ever photographed, every part of this colorful garden party wildflower wedding at the Dempsey Center felt genuine and unforgettable.

Getting Ready at the Dempsey Center

One of my favorite things about photographing weddings at the Dempsey Event Center is the getting ready space. The bridal suite is absolutely stunning and easily one of my favorite getting ready locations for weddings in the Columbus, Ohio area. The natural light, thoughtful design, and spacious layout made it the perfect place to begin documenting the day.

When I arrived, Kelsie and her bridesmaids were getting their hair and makeup done with the Le Rêve team while dancing, laughing, and soaking in the excitement of the morning together. The energy in the room was relaxed, joyful, and honestly just so much fun to be around! I spent the morning capturing detail photos of their invitations, florals, dresses, and all of the meaningful little pieces that helped tell the story of their wedding day.

Later, Ben arrived with his groomsmen, and we captured some candid getting ready moments with the guys as well. Everyone was in such great spirits all day long, which truly set the tone for the celebration ahead.

A Private First Look and Personal Vows

Once Kelsie was dressed, the two of them shared a private first look in a quiet sidewalk area on the side of the venue. It gave them a chance to slow down and fully take in the moment together before the ceremony began.

During their first look, Kelsie and Ben also exchanged private vows, which made the moment even more emotional and meaningful. I always love when couples carve out intentional time together during the wedding day because it allows them to truly connect before the whirlwind of the celebration begins.

Afterward, we spent time capturing portraits of the two of them together before moving into wedding party photos and immediate family portraits.

An Outdoor Ceremony Filled with Colorful Wildflowers

Their ceremony took place outside on the lawn at the Dempsey Center, and the timing could not have been more perfect. The skies had been cloudy leading up to the ceremony, but as soon as Kelsie walked down the aisle, the sun came out. It genuinely felt like a movie moment!

The ceremony space beautifully reflected their colorful garden party wildflower wedding vision. Bright florals and whimsical arrangements framed the ceremony area while the bouquets added even more texture and color to the day. I absolutely loved how they embraced color throughout their wedding design because it made everything feel vibrant, joyful, and uniquely them.

Their ceremony itself was short, sweet, and heartfelt – the perfect reflection of the two of them.

Another special moment they incorporated was a time capsule that they pulled out right after they sealed the deal with their first kiss to mark the exact time.

Cocktail Hour Around the Sanctuary and Patio

Following the ceremony, Kelsie and Ben took a private moment together while guests enjoyed cocktail hour throughout the lawn, patio, and Sanctuary spaces at the Dempsey Center.

This little pause after the ceremony gave them a chance to decompress and soak in the fact that they had just gotten married before jumping back into the celebration with everyone else.

After finishing the remaining family photos, the two of them were able to enjoy cocktail hour with their guests before changing outfits and heading into the reception.

A Garden Party Inspired Reception Tent

The reception tent looked absolutely beautiful and cozy despite the chilly temperatures outside. Many of the floral arrangements and ceremony pieces were repurposed throughout the reception space, which tied everything together perfectly while also highlighting all of the intentional details they incorporated into the day.

An incredibly thoughtful detail from Kelsie and Ben’s reception was the custom table numbers that Kelsie’s mom created for each guest table. Not only did they serve as table numbers, but they also doubled as anniversary cards for the couple to open in the years following their wedding day. Inside each table number was paper where guests could write notes for Kelsie and Ben before placing them back inside. Then, on each anniversary after their wedding, the two of them will be able to open one of the cards and read heartfelt notes from the people who celebrated alongside them on their wedding day. It was such a meaningful and intentional way to preserve the love and memories from their wedding!

One of my favorite details from the reception was Kelsie’s outfit change. For the reception, she changed into a second dress featuring beautiful floral details that fit their garden party aesthetic perfectly.

Their cake design tied everything together so beautifully as well. The floral decorations around the base of the cake display mirrored the flowers on Kelsie’s reception dress while also complementing the wildflower-inspired florals throughout the wedding day. It was such a thoughtful and intentional design choice that made the entire reception feel cohesive from start to finish.

Champagne Sabering, Emotional Speeches, and Incredible Parent Dances

Kelsie and Ben kicked off the reception with their first dance before moving into speeches from both sets of parents, the maid of honor, and the best man. Every speech felt heartfelt, emotional, and full of love for the two of them.

One of the most unique moments of the evening was the champagne sabering demonstration! Guests gathered around as the champagne bottle was opened with a saber while the tradition and history behind it were explained. Afterward, Kelsie and Ben shared their very first champagne toast together, which made for such a fun and memorable moment.

Later in the evening came the parent dances, which ended up being some of the most entertaining and emotional moments of the entire reception!

During the father-daughter dance, Kelsie and her dad unexpectedly started singing the song together while dancing, which was such a sweet surprise. Then Ben and his mom completely stole the show with some truly impressive dance moves during their mother-son dance. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a mother-son dance quite like it before!

Sneaking Away for Nighttime Portraits

As the dance floor filled up and the party continued, Kelsie and Ben snuck away with me for a few nighttime portraits – and I am so glad we made time for them.

Not only did we create some incredibly creative images that ended up being some of my favorite photos from the entire day, but it also gave the two of them a chance to step away together for a few quiet moments in the middle of all the excitement.

Those little intentional pauses throughout a wedding day always end up being so meaningful.

A Joyful Wedding Day at the Dempsey Center

Kelsie and Ben’s colorful wildflower wedding at the Dempsey Center was such a beautiful reminder that the best wedding days are the ones that truly reflect the couple at the center of it all. Every detail felt intentional, every moment felt genuine, and every single person there was clearly so excited to celebrate these two.

Kelsie and Ben, thank you both so much for trusting me to document such an important day in your lives. You two were an absolute joy to work with, and I feel so grateful that I got to capture these memories for you.
