Spring Engagement Session at Inniswood Metro Gardens

When Cheyenne and Dallas began planning their engagement session, they knew they wanted photos that felt like them. They love spending time outdoors, exploring gardens, visiting historical homes, and getting dressed up for a nice evening out together. With spring in full bloom and wedding planning underway, an engagement session surrounded by nature felt like the perfect fit.

As a Columbus, Ohio engagement photographer, one of my favorite things is helping couples choose a location and season that reflects their personalities. For Cheyenne and Dallas, we planned an April engagement session at Inniswood Metro Gardens in Westerville, Ohio, one of the most beautiful locations for engagement photos in the Columbus area.

Why Inniswood Metro Gardens Is Perfect for Engagement Photos

If you’re looking for engagement photo ideas in Columbus, Ohio, Inniswood Metro Gardens is always high on my list of recommendations. The gardens offer a variety of beautiful backdrops throughout the year, from blooming trees and colorful flowers to wooded pathways and open green spaces.

For Cheyenne and Dallas’s session, we timed everything perfectly. The flowering trees were at their peak, fresh spring blooms were beginning to appear throughout the gardens, and the entire park felt full of life after a long Ohio winter!

One of the biggest advantages of choosing Inniswood for engagement photos is the variety of scenery available within a short walking distance. Throughout the session, we simply wandered through the gardens, stopping whenever we found beautiful light or a spot that caught our eye.

Golden Hour Engagement Photos in Columbus, Ohio

I love photographing engagement sessions during golden hour whenever possible, and Cheyenne and Dallas’s session was a perfect example of why.

Golden hour is the period shortly before sunset when the sunlight becomes softer, warmer, and more flattering. It creates beautiful natural glow, adds depth to photographs, and helps couples feel relaxed as they enjoy their time together.

We were lucky enough to have one of those perfect spring evenings with clear skies and gorgeous golden light filtering through the blooming trees. The sunlight created a romantic atmosphere that complemented the natural beauty of the gardens and made every image feel warm and timeless.

If you’re planning your own engagement session, scheduling your photos around golden hour is one of the best ways to achieve that dreamy, glowing look.

Engagement Session Outfit Inspiration

Cheyenne and Dallas chose floral dresses that felt perfect for the season and location. The soft patterns complemented the blooming gardens, and the flowing fabric added beautiful movement throughout the session.

One of my favorite outfit tips for engagement photos is choosing clothing that allows for movement. Dresses that flow when you walk, spin, or cuddle up together often create more dynamic and natural images. Rather than matching exactly, Cheyenne and Dallas coordinated their looks in a way that felt cohesive while still allowing each of their personalities to shine.

The result was a look that felt elegant, romantic, and perfectly suited for a spring engagement session.

A Meaningful Personal Touch

One of the most special details from this session was seeing Cheyenne and Dallas’s engagement rings.

Rather than purchasing traditional rings, they created their rings together during a workshop at The Smithery. Knowing they had crafted these symbols of their commitment with their own hands made the rings even more meaningful.

I always encourage couples to incorporate personal details into their engagement photos. Whether it’s a meaningful location, a shared hobby, a beloved pet, or special heirlooms, these details help tell your unique story and make your photographs even more personal.

Planning Your Own Columbus Engagement Session

If you’re searching for engagement photo ideas in Columbus, Ohio, consider choosing a location and season that reflects your relationship. Whether you love gardens, downtown date nights, historic architecture, hiking trails, bars, or cozy coffee shops, your engagement session should feel like an extension of your story.

The best engagement photos happen when couples choose meaningful locations, wear outfits that make them feel confident, and focus on enjoying time together rather than worrying about the camera.

Cheyenne and Dallas’s spring engagement session at Inniswood Metro Gardens was a beautiful reminder that sometimes the simplest evenings create the most memorable photographs.

If you’re looking for a Columbus, Ohio engagement photographer and are ready to start planning your own engagement session, I’d love to help you create photos that feel joyful, authentic, and uniquely you.
