If you’re dreaming of a colorful summer engagement session and want to include your dog, the Columbus Park of Roses is a beautiful place to do it. With vibrant blooms, charming architecture, towering trees, open green spaces, and beauty around every corner, it’s easy to see why so many couples choose this Columbus gem for their engagement photos.
Hannah and Matt’s engagement session checked every one of those boxes. Even with temperatures climbing into the summer heat, they embraced the evening, soaked up the gorgeous golden light, and ended up with an engagement gallery that was completely worth it!

One of my favorite parts of Hannah and Matt’s engagement session was getting to meet their adorable cockapoo, Milo!
I’m always happy to include dogs during engagement sessions, especially if you’ve never had professional photos with them before. They’re such an important part of so many couples’ lives, and it’s always fun to include them in this season of your story.
Milo was incredibly well behaved and loved exploring the gardens right alongside Hannah and Matt. They also brought a friend to help take care of him between photos, which made the whole experience so smooth. We were able to capture plenty of sweet moments with Milo while also creating lots of romantic portraits of just the two of them. If you’re thinking about bringing your dog to your engagement session, having an extra set of hands is something I always recommend!
By the end of their engagement session, we even had a sunset, which was perfect for a few silhouette photos!
Hannah started the session in a casual outfit that fit the relaxed, playful feel of exploring the gardens together. Later, she changed into a gorgeous burnt orange dress that photographed beautifully against all of the summer greenery and blooming roses. The warm tones were absolutely perfect for golden hour and added so much richness to their gallery.
I always love when couples choose to bring a second outfit because it adds variety to the final gallery and gives you two completely different looks without needing a second location.
One of the most rewarding parts of my job is getting to document multiple milestones in my couples’ lives.
Matt first reached out when he was planning to propose to Hannah in German Village, and I had the honor of secretly photographing one of the biggest moments of their relationship! After she said yes, we wandered around German Village together for a few newly engaged portraits.
They enjoyed that experience with me so much that they inquired about wedding photography and booked me for their wedding!
Since they wanted to wait for warmer weather for their full engagement session, they booked a mini session to get photos for their Save the Dates. So, we met again for a quick winter session at Wagnalls Memorial Library. We got the perfect photo for their Save the Date bookmark (which was absolutely adorable!) and then some!
Watching each chapter of their story unfold has been so much fun and I can’t wait to celebrate with them at their wedding!
