One of my favorite parts of being a Columbus senior photographer is getting to design sessions that truly reflect who someone is. Senior photos should feel personal, creative, and authentic to each senior’s personality – and Khepri’s session was the perfect example of that!
When Khepri’s mom first reached out looking for a senior photographer in Columbus, Ohio, I was excited to learn more about Khepri and the kind of session she envisioned. Once I met her, it didn’t take long to see the vibe she was drawn to. Khepri is part of the LGBTQ+ community, loves music, plays guitar, collects records, and gravitates toward classic rock and other rock bands. She also shared a few inspiration photos with me that had a nostalgic, film-inspired aesthetic.
Right away, we knew we wanted to build her creative senior session in Columbus around that vintage music vibe.
Starting the Session at Used Kids Records
We began Khepri’s senior photos in Columbus, Ohio at Used Kids Records – one of her favorite record stores. The shop was incredibly gracious and allowed us to photograph inside, which made the session feel even more meaningful and personal to her.
Among the shelves of vinyl records and music posters, Khepri brought along her guitars so we could capture images that reflected one of her biggest passions. We had so much fun experimenting creatively in the space – playing with different angles, movement, and even some slow shutter techniques to add a bit of that nostalgic, artistic feel she loved! We also were sure to capture a few options that fit her high school guidelines for the yearbook photo.
If you’re looking for unique senior pictures in Columbus, incorporating personal locations like this is such a meaningful way to make your session stand out!
Golden Hour Photos Around Columbus
After spending time in the record store, we stepped outside to take advantage of the beautiful golden evening light. The warm glow of sunset created the perfect atmosphere for some relaxed and natural portraits.
From there, we headed over to the area around Franklinton Arts District to incorporate a more urban look into Khepri’s gallery. The colorful murals and artistic spaces there added another creative layer to this Columbus Ohio senior photography session.
Such a cool moment happened when we found an old car that had been transformed into an art installation. Khepri happened to be wearing a shirt with a car on it that day, which made the scene feel almost meant to be! We used the car as a backdrop and created some really fun, edgy portraits that fit her style perfectly.
Mixing Digital and Film Photography
To really lean into the nostalgic feel Khepri loved, I also brought along my film camera for part of the session. Along with her digital images, Khepri received several film photos in her gallery as well.
The film added a grainy, timeless quality that paired beautifully with the music-inspired locations and vintage aesthetic she was drawn to – perfect for seniors who want a more artistic and creative senior photo experience in Columbus.
A Senior Session That Truly Reflected Khepri
By the end of the evening, we had created a gallery that felt incredibly personal to Khepri – filled with music, creativity, movement, and the things she loves most.
Sessions like this are exactly why I love being a Columbus Ohio senior photographer! Your senior year is such a unique moment in life, and your photos should capture the real you.
